Episode 45 – A Tall Cold Pint of Nightlife
Show notes are a little less traditional than usual this week seeing as we recorded this episode live at the CalAcademy Nigthtlife in San Francisco! The show was fun but fraught with distraction. We told what we were drinking, talked about what would happen if the earth stopped spinning, and the trailer for the week was the etymologically indistinct Green Hornet. All this is interspersed with Nightlifers asking questions and just generally being cool. Finally we bask in the iTunes review left by Cat Eyed Fox.
Forgive the less than stellar audio quality but hopefully the content makes up for it. Thanks again to everyone who came out to support us and welcome to any new listeners we might have!

First off, I love your podcast, so keep up the great work. One thing I do have to say is that this is the first episode I’ve listened to that I couldn’t complete. I think it’s great when you can do the podcast together, and it’s interesting to hear it in a public place (like the beer episode). I’m sure it was fun for you guys to get interrupted every couple of minutes by people walking by, but it’s pretty annoying as a listener. I like listening to your show to hear intelligent banter and quality guests, not listening to Ryan explain to every passerby how you’re recording a podcast.
this was great!
Wow… an entire discussion of the Green Hornet without once mentioning the real reason for doing a remake: Van Williams and Bruce Lee on TV in the late 60s! Not too many people know it was a radio show, or knew (like I do now) that the Hornet was related to the Lone Ranger, but c’mon! That show made Bruce Lee famous, and karate, too! It’s no coincidence that they got one of the best martial artists to portray Kato this time around, too.
As for casting Seth Rogan? I’ll believe it works when I *see* that it works. I really like him, but am not sure about this one.
Still and all, a great podcast from a noisy, interruptive location. I agree with ‘Bacon’ that the editing could have been tightened up to avoid the repetitive explanations, etc. Also, pro tip, just for you guys. When you’re in a noisy environment, record just that environment (‘the room tone’) for a few seconds, then layer that in under any editing you do to smooth the transitions. There were a few abrupt cuts that jumped out because of the moment of silence they created.
Oh yeah, one other thing for the listener with the thing for religious beers. I finally have a reason, however weak:
Avery Brewing Company
Featuring these fantastic beers:
– The Holy Trinity of Ales
– - The Reverend – Belgian Quadrupel
– - Hog Heaven – Barleywine
– - Salvation – Golden Ale
– The Demons of Ale (Among the best beers on the planet)
– - Mephistopheles – Stout
– - Samael’s – Ale
– - The Beast – Grand Cru Ale
They also did the Collaboration, Not Litigation beer with Russian River Brewing Company after discovering that both had a beer called Salvation. C,NL is a blend of the two products. Not my favorite, but pretty freaking awesome!

Oh noz…3rd post in a row! Sorry about that. Correction to my Green Hornet rant…for some reason I thought Jet Li was playing Kato, making the Bruce Lee connection. No idea if Jay Chou has any martial arts background, so… yeah. Ignore that part. I still stand by the fact that Bruce Lee is the only reason people under the age of 70 know about the Green Hornet, though. Including Seth Rogan, who looked perfect in the roll, provided its an action-comedy, which the gas-gun bit seems to point pretty heavily to.
This is so nice and great
